A tissue holder is a quick make from two scraps, but packs come in different sizes, and a holder that is a little too small never closes over the pack.

Measure your pack, type its length, width and thickness, and choose how far the two front edges overlap. The pattern sizes the holder round the pack, marks where to fold, and gives the steps.

Make it yours: This is a starting point. Change the size, proportions, pockets, closures, strap or handle lengths and other details to suit how you will use it, and measure the item (or yourself) it is for. If you are unsure, sew a quick mock-up in scrap fabric first.

Who it's for

How it works

  1. Measure your tissue pack and type its length, width and thickness
  2. Choose how much the front edges overlap
  3. Print the pattern, or cut the rectangle from the cutting list
  4. Sew the opening edges, fold on the marked lines and sew the sides

Frequently asked questions

What size is a standard pocket pack?

Common pocket packs are about 11 × 7.5 cm and 2.5 cm thick, which is the first preset. Packs vary between makers, so it’s worth measuring yours.

Why is the holder bigger than the pack?

It has to go round the pack’s thickness as well as its width, and its sewn ends close flat over a pack that isn’t. The pattern allows for both.
