The finished piece

A reversible blanket is two layers of fabric, so each side can be different: a print one side and a plain colour on the other. Type the finished width and length and the front and back are drawn with seam allowance.

Finish the edges turned and topstitched, or bound, with a corner radius you choose, and add a middle layer if you want light padding.

Make it yours: Use a different fabric on each face, change the size for a lap throw or picnic blanket, and add a contrasting binding.

How it goes together

These are the maker’s own instructions at the starting size. They change with the options you pick, and the PDF carries the full set with the cover, cutting list and materials list.

  1. Put each front and back right sides together and sew round at 1 cm, leaving 10 cm open between the notches.
  2. Notch the curved corners close to the stitching.
  3. Turn right side out, push out the corners, press, and topstitch all round 0.5 cm from the edge, closing the gap.

Fabric suggestions

Outer: Cotton, linen or a cotton-linen blend: they wash well and press crisply. Each face can be a different fabric.

Lining: The back is the same fabric or a contrasting cotton: a turned or bound blanket has a front layer and a back layer.

Interfacing, padding or other layers: No interfacing. The optional middle layer can be thin cotton batting or fleece, for a little warmth.

How each fabric family suits it

The maker’s advice adjusts to the fabric family you pick in the Fabric tab.

Printing it

At the starting size the printed pieces take 32 A4 pages, taped together using the page labels, alignment marks and page map. For a print shop, choose a sheet from A0 to a 36″ roll: the pieces are packed onto as few sheets as they will fit on, and if one is too big for the sheet the maker says so. How printing, tiling and the test square work.
